Son of Gundy

Did you know:

That Gundy had two goals and an assist against Arizona state on 26 February 2005, scored 2 goals against Cal-Poly on 28 March 2006, scored 1 more goal against San Diego State 30 March 2005, racked up another 2 goals against Utah State 23 April 2005, and then scored a goal (and spent a minute in the penalty box, of course) in the final game of the RMLC against #1 ranked Colorado state to help BYU win the lacrosse championship on April 30, 2005?

Now you know!

Next week: more on Gundy’s cycling career, including inside info. on his 4th place finish in the City Creek Bike Sprint, October 12, 2002 in Salt Lake City, and his 50 meter uphill sprint alongside Lance Armstrong in the Tour de France in 2002.

Gundy Politics

In this time of elections and political backstabbing/power-struggles, it's important to look for wise advice and counsel from Pa. Like what Gundy wrote to the Deseret News this last year (original spelling and punctuation preserved):

Don't confuse ideology, truth
Deseret News (Salt Lake City), Jan 21, 2005

"As a young conservative Mormon, I feel the need to reply to Steve Gardiner's letter (Readers' Forum, Jan. 19) which said that it is impossible to be a good Mormon and a good Democrat. It is true that some aspects of the Democratic agenda are in conflict with the LDS faith, but the Republicans also do things that can be considered morally objectional.

In May 2000, in a speech to the Nation Press Club, President Gordon B. Hinckley expressed his belief that one can be both a good Mormon and a good Democrat. He said the church has many Democrats and "they're good people."

Let's not confuse political ideology with religious truth. Too many times religion takes a back seat to political agendas."

Gundy-slam (read "slam" as in the word "Islam")

Why can I see Gundy (and G-House) doing something like this with a straight face?

Ode to the Greatest Mac salesman who ever lived

The day has arrived!! Gundy is officially 23 today. And because today is such a pivotal moment in history, I took it upon myself to ponder deeply the things I have learned from Father Gundy (this also could have been the result of reading Alma's counsel to his sons in Alma 36-38 this morning). Here are some things that come to mind:

Sayings that sound like Gundy said them:

"I don't think jogging is healthy, especially morning jogging. If morning joggers knew how tempting they looked to morning motorists, they would stay home and do sit-ups."
"Never work before breakfast; if you have to work before breakfast, eat your breakfast first."
"The secret to biking is pretty simple. The slower you go the more likely it is you'll crash."
"Never ask a man what sort of computer he has. If it's a Mac, he'll tell you. If not, why embarrass him?"

Sayings that Gundy really said:

"I guess Pluto is no longer a planet: (http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,645195749,00.html). I guess that makes 7 planets, because I'll be dead before I recognize Saturn."
"Bad luck with waffle irons will lead to large monetary gains when you win your class action lawsuit this week."
"I was enraged that the makers of this game could make such an unsubstantiated claim that at best should be considered propaganda, especially in light of the fact that "Canasta" is widely considered the World's most challenging card game."
"I am going to purchase approximately 500 lbs. of Cadbury Mini Eggs to supply myself for the next year."
"Governmental and civic leader across the globe have put me on their lists of public nuisances. They have an agenda to destory the reputation of the penguin and they don't care if they have to trample me to do it."

I guess what I've learned from Pa this year is to:
Scorn the scientific community,
Take out a loan to buy as many Cadbury Mini Eggs as possible this Easter, and finally,
Choose a helpless cause (the fight against Phase 10, or the defense of the Empire Penguin) and be an iconoclast.

Thanks for all you've taught us Gundy. We'd never be the same without you.

The Secret Identity of SonofGundy!

Not to detract from the important business of the week (ONE DAY FIVE HOURS AND THIRTY SIX MINUTES AND COUNTING...), but since Kellen has made repeated requests that we curtail the anonymity of SonofGundy (yes Gundy, I purposefully put a picture of you next to this statement just to perpetuate, ever so briefly, the association of your name with SonofGundy), and since a picture is proverbially worth a thousand words, I present the following photographs for your scrutiny:

Item Number One:
This image requires that you recall the first picture of Gundy on this blog. You will note this picture is from the very same canoe trip on the very same river, yet this time, the picture has not cropped everything else out but the head of Gundy. Please note the other individual in the picture as evidence of the existance of someone other than Gundy being able to post pictures of Gundy in a canoe with those particular sunglasses on this blog. I submit that this other person is none other than SonofGundy (me), and is not Kellen (although I do my best to be like him). Truthfully, how could/why would anyone else post these pictures?

Item Number Two:
Furthermore, as Gundy mentioned, and as this site boldly proclaims, it is we "faithful posterity" that assume the full weight of responsibility for maintaining this blog. This picture was taken of Gundy and SonofGundy (me) the week SonofGundy returned from his mission. Note the missionary haircut, suit, tie, and FJM pin on the suit lapel. Note Gundy with the aforementioned person, who was also in the previously presented photograph in the canoe. Thus Gundy is linked to a picture of his mission son, both persons being collectively linked to the first picture of Gundy on this website by the previous photograph, fully establishing the more-than-possibility that it is, indeed, the posterity of Gundy, and not Kellen himself, who has created this blog.

Now, how many loopholes did I leave open to anonymous posters?

Have I done you proud Pa?

The Gundy Countdown

One score and three years ago in five days, our forefather, Gundy, saw the light at the end of the umbilical cord for the first time. The master of the keytar himself will be turning 23 on Friday, October 20, 2006. In honor of this prolific writer, philosopher, biker, skier, and singer, this second-millenial rennaissance man, if you will, the faithful posterity of Gundy will be holding an official countdown on this website, complete with historic photos, quotes, and, of course, gossip--starting today. Please feel free to contact Gundy at any time Friday--preferably as close to when he was actually born as possible (proportedly near 3am). Let the countdown begin: FOUR DAYS, SEVEN HOURS AND THIRTY NINE MINUTES.

Quote of the Week

"My efforts to change people's negative preconceived notions about penquins have caused me to become a lightning rod of political hellfire."
